| Well this is a later era Ramones so don't except it to be as good as the first four albums or their last true classic album Too Tough To Die for that matter. But it's still very solid for it being made during the time period of the band where they were just completely frustrated because they hadn't had that hit song that would make them famous. Oh that and lets not forget that at this point the band really had their personal hatreds towards each other along with certain members battling drug addictions. Shit, when you think about it, most would be surprised that were still able to go into a studio and make albums and tour the way they did for as long as they did.
So yeah, the most memorable and recognizable songs on here are Somebody Put Something In My Drink, Bonzo Goes To Bitburg, and Something To Believe In; those are also the ones you'll find on many of the Ramones compilations that represent this album. Animal Boy and the Dee Dee sung Love Kills are also great songs. Most of the other songs are ok; the only song I can say that just baffles beyond belief is "She Belongs To Me." I have no idea why they thought making and 80's keyboard, soft-pop ballad song would be a good idea.
So to conclude, it's not a bad later-era Ramones album by any means... but this was the very beginning of their process of just going through the motions in the studio. It's a shame that it had to be that way because "Too Tough To Die" showed that they were still capable of making awesome & classic albums, it's just that those band problems/frustrations and Dee Dee's demons prevented that from happening. There's no way this should be your introduction to the Ramones but the people who already own the Ramones early discography should make sure to pick this one up. Enjoy! |

| I've always read that this was the first of three albums (the others being Halfway the Sanity and Brain Drain)that were part of the sucky album trilogy. I wasn't sure weather I should pick it up or leave it be. I'm sure glad I did. Although it's no Self titled or Rocket To Russia, it's still a great album. The Ramones just kind of changed a little and started to write even cheesier songs than they did before. Don't let the sceptics fool you. It's great. |
