Knucklehead

New Black List

Stumble 14

Released on October 26, 2005

$14.50

Born in the cultural wastelands of suburbia, Calgary’s Knucklehead has been a staple of the Western Canadian Punk scene since 1994, with their recent signing to Stumble Records, Knucklehead hit the studio with long time friend and sound engineer Al Irving to record their fourth full-length album “The New Black List" and it is their best effort to date! All the essential punk rock ingredients are offered up, with a little bit of added thought and refinement. From an energetic rant and self-analysis on our superficial consumer culture in “cosmetic youth” to commentary on the second-class status of street prostitutes in “bodies at midnight”, there’s plenty of lyrical content for the mind to chew on. Although most widely appreciated for their rhythms and sing along choruses, the band has also gained recognition for the socio-political views expressed in their songs and their ability to provide commentary without coming off as preachy. Keep an eye on the show listings, because the boys are armed with a new album and a crappy old van and they’re headed to a dodgy bar near you.

a great album. it took me a few times to fully appreciate the songs, but it is a great album. i love the raw, basic punk rock style the boys play, often with gang vocals. knucklehead often gives a pub-rock and oi! sort of feeling, which you cannot help but love. best songs are "cosmetic youth", "jacob burke", "the new black list", "prime time reality", "dead end boys in dark glasses", and "shelters". pick it up, as well as the "voice among us/ little boots" album.

Wow...I was blown away. These guys are great. I bought the album the day I heard song "The New Black List" on punk radio cast. Very energetic punk album with some good messages. Their sound reminds me of bands like old Drop Kick Murphys and Cock Sparrer. A+
