GUNMOLL represented, at the outset, a new generation of bands burning on the fuel of inspiration laid down by the likes of JAWBREAKER, LEATHERFACE, and HOT WATER MUSIC, with a bittersweet dark edge akin to ALKALINE TRIO. Equally, the band was an abrupt turn and catalyst for members Jon Marburger, who drummed in the influential and innovative word-of-mouth, tug-at-your-heartstrings cult phenomenon I HATE MYSELF and Derron Nuhfer, who played Bari Sax for six years with pop-punk scientists LESS THAN JAKE, and who moved to bass and backing vocals for GUNMOLL.

Both wanted change and to start something new! “Board of Rejection” immediately jumps out of the speakers with a huge sound and a vibrance that is unparalleled. The vocals are hard-hitting, yet with inescapable melody lines and instantly memorable turns of phrase. The guitars are intricate yet direct: power chords with subtle flourishes coming to the forefront. Thunderous basslines continue the themes laid down and solidify the framework between. Powerful drumming, on-a-dime tight, stylistically fluid: every sound is clear, from the brightest cymbal ring to the heaviest floor tom resolve.

This is the pinnacle achievement for GUNMOLL: a no-bullshit, anthemic testament to years spent drenched in the sweat and noise pouring out of the hot, humid, moldy warehouses of Gainesville, Florida! On beautiful BLUE or GOLD vinyl and no, you don't get to pick!

I discovered these guys too late because they're no longer with us as a band. However, this is one of my favorites at the moment. For fans for the Lawrence Arms, Hot Water Music, and Jawbreaker.

I got into this band too late. I wish I could have seen them live before they called it a day. But I am enjoying Mike Hale's solo release and his new band IN THE RED. Good gravel throat Gainsville/No Idea Records sounding album.

This is an amazing record. These songs will stay with me forever. Fans of Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker, etc. should definately check this out. It's unfortunate that they broke up because I'm dying to hear more stuff from them.

This album is great. Emotional punk in the style of Hot Water Music, Leatherface and Jawbreaker. If you like any of these bands you will probably like this album. This is the best from Gunmoll that I have heard.

Peace Out.

well, ive had this cd for almost a year and finally have gotten off my ass to review it. theres not much to say about this cd except for that it kicks ass. i think the best song on the cd could be "ryan murphys song" but the whole damn thing just kicks ass. these guys definately remind me of older hot water music. and what do you know...both HWM and gunmoll are from gainsville. i think there is something in the water there that makes bands kick ass. i think this is a step up from their first cd (which ruled in its own right). its defiately worth the $11. if you're a fan of HWM you'll probably like this too. get this on your christmas list or jesus will roll over in his grave. wait...he was actually hung on a cross then buried in a mountain before he rose from the dead. but i digress...get this shit.

11/16/2004 by James from Flagstaff, AZ Rating:
It's a shame Gunmoll broke up, because this is packed with such emotion and intencity I had to see a shrink by the time it finished. Awesome, if you're into "cut the shit" music full of emotion that just reeks of the hard work the band put into making their music, buy this. These guys truly deserve this, playing music like it all should be- basement shows and asking fans for a place to sleep. It's a shame they aren't around. Buy this and support good music everywhere.
