MTX (known by the long-form The Mr. T Experience) has been a pop-punk powerhouse since their 1986 self-released debut album, "Everyone's Entitled To Their Own Opinion." For their tenth(!) studio album the band, led by eminently witty and talented Doctor Frank, have once again teamed up with producer Kevin Army (Operation Ivy, Sweet Baby) because if it isn't broke, don't fix it. The resulting album, "Yesterday Rules" is a whip-smart 12 song pop-punk affair.
This is the band's first new full-length since 1999's "Alcatraz" and marks the debut of new members Bobby on bass and Ted on second guitar and keyboards. Fans of MTX and fans of great melodic punk rock will love "Yesterday Rules." This album contains a crafted mix of fast pop-punk songs, melodic mid-tempo rock-pop, a ballad or two and a few surprises. Some songs are too much fun, some are slightly dark, but they are all great!

sweet cd, not like old mtx stuff, but definitely awesome. a very mellow sound, probably more indie than punk. dr. frank's lyrics are amazing, and the same quirky mtx takes a new shape.

this release really wasn't what i was expecting....it seems like the lyrics are just thrown together without much thought and the songs just don't stand out...i'll stick with their older material.

kind of a weak effort. too much pop sugary sweetness and not enough punk. not a horrible cd, but far from great. oh, well. theres always Throw Rag to get my hostilities out with.

Compared to their previous albums, this is much slower. But that's not a bad thing since this is MTX and the one and only Dr. Frank. I think that Dr. Frank's songwrting is at its best on this album. His lyrics are just so witty and clever that you can't help but be impressed. My favorite line comes from "Instituionalized Misogyny": "I stole that line from Woody Alan, isn't it amusing. I wish I wish I can make you understand what Woody Alan meant." How fucking cool is that? Plus Dr. Frank is probably the only songwriter who has made me look up words in the dictionary. So to conclude, get this album, every other mtx album, and Dr. Frank's solo album.

This was a huge disappointment. I'm one of those people who prefers MTX's older stuff, but I had my hopes up for this one. I didn't really like it that much. There were about 2 or 3 good songs. Many of the tracks were kind of slow, so you might like this cd if that's your cup of tea.
