Faction

Collection 1982-1985

(Steve Caballero)

Think about skating, and you think about punk rock. The two have become inseparable, the terrible twins, joined at birth and destined to suffer together throughout their increasingly dangerous life spans. Out of the madness that linked both, skate rock was born, and the band that epitomised and epitomises skate rock more than any other are The Faction. Formed by Steve Cabellero and fellow skaters, the band had one function. To provide a soundtrack that could be skated to. One that was hard enough to grind along with, powerful enough to fuel a thousand vert tricks and street sessions, that raised a middle finger to the mainstream play it safe, stand on edges wannabe skaters and their ilk and catchy enough to sing along with and dance to at the pool parties and barbecues that followed every session. The Faction fulfilled the dreams of Cabellero, and went above and beyond his wildest expectations.

“Collection” draws twenty eight of the best songs from all of The Factions previous releases and offers them up to the skate gods to dispense to the kids discovering four wheels and a board for the first tie and veteran riders alike. The Faction are back…

One of the most underrated and overlooked punk rock bands to forge their way through the 80's. It should be in everyone's punk collections. Seriously. Fine quality and great songs, that are fast, catchy, and written well. This collection is over an hour of perfectly sequenced skate punk history. Not sure if these guys ever have or ever will get enough credit for what they have done. The people that know the background of this band already know what I mean, and have added it to the cart already. To the rest of you, take a seat and learn something.

The Faction play some kickass skate punk very much like Los Olvidados. The reason I bought them was because the pro skater Steve Caballero was in this band. They are pretty cool. Songs like "Lets go Get Cokes", "Tounge Like a Battering Ram", "Corpse in Disguise", "California Dreamin" and "Skate and Destroy" are really cool. "Dark Room", another good song, features Rikk from the Adolescents. At the end it drags a little but no worries. Fun to skate too.

This is a really great collection of skatepunk legends The Faction. If you dig early Cali punk like the Adolescents, Descendents and Wasted Youth this is a must. This comp is actually worth buying just for the song "Dark room", which features some killer Rikk Agnew like guitar work. But there's plenty more good songs here. The only reason I'm not givin it 5 stars is that a few of the songs sound a bit too much alike, with similar intro and riffage. Skate and destroy punx!

The Faction is the ultimate band in skatepunk and always will be. The Faction is Steve Caballero's band from 1982-1985. If you skateboard and you like punk rock and steve caballero i recomend this. If you don't like either of these then don't get it.
