Give Up The Ghost
We're Down Til We're Underground
(Features Tim From Ten Yard Fight, Formerly American Nightmare)
Equal Vision 83
Released on September 23, 2003
|
GIVE UP THE GHOST has shaped a sound and aesthetic that’s identifiable and contextual. The immediate emulation of their sound and image by their peers clearly illustrates the point. The bands founding members, Tim Cossar and Wes Eisold, weren’t just fans of hardcore music, they were steeped in its history. Cossar was a member of Ten Yard Fight whom Eisold had served as a roadie for on many national tours.
Initially you might not see the link to Archers Of Loaf, Joy Division, Pulp, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Morrissey, Fugazi, Lifetime or My Bloody Valentine in GUTG’s sound, but its there. GIVE UP THE GHOST will continue to redefine and challenge the entire scene when they release, We’re Down Til We’re Underground, the most anticipated album of the year in the hardcore scene.

| At the very least, I was disappointed with this album. Each song sounded obnoxiously similar to the one before it, and the lyrics would have been better suited to an emo band. It wasn’t terrible; there were a few things about this album I liked. However, the list of good things I could say about We’re Down Til We’re Underground is outweighed by the list of better things you could spend your money on. |

| "We're Down..." is nothing compared to "Background Music" but it is still good nonetheless. There are a few songs on the cd that I'm not really into ("No Lotions Gonna Unclog Those Pores" and "Calculation-Nation") but overall it's a good effort.
I'm giving it 4 stars because "Background Music" owns this cd. |

"Prove me wrong, prove you give a fuck, about the sound, about the words. Prove that we've crossed your mind on some term besides numbers. Prove......me........wrong....." |

| A lot of people would dissagree with me, but I think this is way better than Background Music. Wes' voice does sound a little off on this album, but the songs are just written better. This is a good album to listen to from start to finish which I think is a very good thing. |

| I really like this album. I purchased "Background Music" a while back and thought that that album was good, but a lot of the songs sounded the same. This album is a definite progression for the band and hopefully a sign of more good things to come. |

| What can I say, this cd is very good. With the awesome screaming and the punk esc guitars and drums, I believe everyone should have this cd in their collection. |

| This cd is exactly what I expected it to be and more... If you liked AN before the name change, I don't see why a lot of people don't anymore... better structured songs with the same heartfelt lyrics... buy this ...or i'm telling |
