This is really not what I was hoping for from the early work...without Rudy on the drums, the band just didn't have the 'math-pop' formula that they perfected over the next few albums.

Gatsby's is pretty much my favorite band. After buying their newest cd, Volcano, i instantly fell in love and bought ribbons and sugars and downloaded Land of Lost Monsters. Both cd's were also amazing, with some of the best melodies and vocals harmonies I've ever heard. This was the last cd out of all of them that I bought and when I first heard this cd I was greatly dissapointed. Some guy mentioned below that it is a little more punk-rock based which is true only because some songs have a faster tempo although it still is the same distinct gatsby sound. The problem with this cd is that most the songs all sound the same and arent very distinct. "Where Shadows Lie" is probally the best and most stand-offish song on here as it sounds like it belongs on "Volcano". "The Child" also has a great melody and "The Fall of George Mallory" is pretty good too. As for the rest of them...mediocore. I still reccomend this cd for Gatsby fans, but if your just getting into them, most people prefer Ribbons and Sugar first, but I say go with Volcano because it has a more solid and melodic feel to it.

Not as good as "Ribbons and Sugar" but its still very good. Its a lot more punk rock based than "Ribbons and Sugar". So if thats what your looking for pick this up. I suggest check out Ribbons and Sugar first, and if you like it then pick this one up after. I'm exited for their new one that comes put april 12th.

This is my favorite Gatsby's American Dream recording. The palm muting is like a good date...thick and quick. Except you'll be getting a "bitchin' C.D." instead of an "itchin' V.D."

Gatsby's first album is great its how they started out and i can tell they were more of a pop punk band before with there simple drum techniques and guitar riffs it was nothing to over whlming but the lead singer always blows me aaway with his voice its high but it does this crazy low pitch at times and man i wish i could do that but this album is nothing of an amazement if you are fan pick it up but if not skip this album and go to ribbons but its a good album to atart with of gatsby

Well I bought this cd after hearing ribbons and sugar, and it's not bad, just a lot different. It clocks in at about 23 minutes or so, kind of like r&s. It's a bit faster but more pop-punk-ish with some changeups. A good overall cd to check out, but if you want the greatest of the gatsby, get ribbons and sugar.

Well, I don't know about this album. The vocald are really good, but the music is kinda bland and some of the songs are boring. If you're looking for really great emo, buy a Saves The Day album. Actually, forget what I just said, if you like emo you'll most likely like this. So go for it. It just doesn't do it for me, that's all. Oh, and my name's Will, not Erika.

This cd is okay. I enjoy the songs but they are all to short. The entire cd is like 20 minutes. I think if this band comes back with another album, it might be a little better. They have talent but need to write longer songs.

A great album by one the freshest bands in the punk music industry. Try combining the spastic riffage and off beats of Hey Mercedes, Bracket, and Choke with the melodic vocal stylings of NUFAN, Face to Face, and the like and you come out with a close description of Washington state rockers GAD. The band's release is only the third off the rather new label Rocketstar and shows promise for a growing label with some great bands that include Acceptance, Long Since Forgotten and Time to Fly.
