There is a great album here underneath all the mud. Yes indeed, Phil Spector is known for his "wall of sound" production, but honestly, all that means is he throws a ton of reverb on every single thing you hear and adds lots of unnecessary instrumentation wherever possible. Moments of the production work nicely, but most of it is very distracting. Production aside, there are some very strong songs here, including a couple classics that the band kept their entire career, but it does come off a bit scattered and inconsistent, and covering "Baby I Love You" was probably not the best choice (It's a great version, but does it belong on a Ramones album?...) but overall there aren't any bad songs on here, it's just uneven. I think there should be an Ed Stasium mix of this album, kind of like the Beatles' Let It Be...Naked, I think it could reveal an entirely different album. This particular re-mastered version includes some demos recorded prior to the Spector sessions, which make this album worth picking up if you were on the fence.

End of the Century by The Ramones is a solid Ramones album that I highly reccomend. While the production isn't as raw as their first album or Leave Home, End of the Century stays true to the Ramones 4-chord method. "Rock and Roll High School," "Do You Remember Rock and Roll Radio", and "The Return of Jackie and Judy" are really addictive. Definitely worth the money

ehh..this cd is ok..I dont really like some of the songs on it..and I pretty much bought just because I wanted to hear the Return Of Jackie and Judy song..I like how Joey sings Baby I Love You..but for the most part the songs on here are kinda slow..and they kinda suck..if your a big fan of the Ramones - maybe you should just get it to add to your collection of items..but to me, this just doesnt sound like the Ramones.

I think all Ramones albums should get 5 stars, but sadly this one gets 4. I think they made too big of a deal out of the production. Wow, Phil Spector produced it. He made this cd suck. He added way too much crap to all of the songs and it completely strayed away from the Ramones original sound. I think the newly added demos on the cd are better than the actual cuts that were on the original release.

I felt real guilty giving any early Ramones less than 5 stars. I mean, it's 4 1/2, okay? It's just that the typical complaint about this album being overproduced by Phil Spector is pretty true. Some great songs though. Even though "Danny Says" is one of the softest, slowest Ramones songs ever, it's still Joey at his vocal best. "Let's Go" is an upbeat "Commando"-style anthem. And if you've never heard "Chinese Rock" or "Rock N Roll High School" then just shoot yourself now. These masters of loud, catchy three-chord rock formed the basis for anything considered "pop-punk" today. So what if they wanted a radio hit?! They turned out dozens of great songs along the way. Out of the two slick production, less hard-edged albums, I'd give the advantage to "Pleasant Dreams." This one has a little more filler, including a couple songs that could have benefitted from a louder guitar sound. Still well worth it, especially considering the bonus tracks, which Interpunk doesn't list. They are "I Want You Around (soundtrack version)" and demo versions of "Danny Says," "I'm Affected," "Please Don't Leave," "All the Way," and "Do You Remember Rock N Roll Radio?" Of course, the demo songs feature a rawer mix, a great reason to buy this and the other remastered CD's.
