(Jawbreaker, Jets To Brazil, Against Me!)

Too Small To Fail 2

Released on November 13, 2012

forgetters: as we are, so shall we be. In the spirit of national historical amnesia, the scrappy, enormous Brooklyn band continues its mission to master its immediate moment through the occlusion / collapse of events prior and subsequent. Originally touted as a “9/11 denier hoax,” the group went on to surprise even itself by losing its mind on its tragic-glorious 2011 European tour. Surviving members Kevin Mahon (Against Me!) and Blake Schwarzenbach (Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil) went to Baltimore, Maryland, in late 2011 / early 2012 to record this eponymous full-length with J. Robbins. The result is pure Caesar—a quasi-fascist Republic with power streaming from every administrative angle. The small nation-state plans to tour following the release of its album, in what it has called “Dubai or Death.” Mortal Kombat fans take note, all others be seated.

This post Jets To Brazil project goes back to a more Jawbreaker approach. At first it was hard for me to give this band a chance. I am an extremely loyal Jets To Brazil fan, and was very upset when JTB called it quits. So when Blake started a new band eight years later it was hard for me to know what to make of all of it. When i first heard the Forgetters debut EP i was extremely disappointed at the sound quality and and overall makeup of the songs. This was not a proper follow up to the masterpiece "Perfecting Loneliness". I was ready to throw in the towel at this post Jets To Brazil project, so when the forgetters LP was released i wasn't too excited about it. Once i discovered the female bassist from the first EP quit the band and Jets To Brazil producer J. Robbins was playing bass and producing the new album i decided to give it a chance. Although the Forgetters are not a super group like JTB once was, it doesn't change Blake's knack for being a brilliant song writer and lyricist. This album really started to grow on me. I have listened to it everyday for the last two months and it keeps getting better and better. Blake Schwarzenbach is a brilliant musician and this album is a worthy predecessor to the Masterpiece "Perfecting Loneliness". Blakes genius as an Artist is aspiring, and choosing to follow up on his latest work was a good decision. Picking up this album is a must for any hardcore Jawbreaker or Jets To Brazil fan.

This album is great for Jawbreaker fans, in fact it's more Jawbreaker than Jets To Brazil, I'll buy anything Blake puts out, and while not on par with his old stuff, still a very nice listen, worth picking up.

I hate to do it, but this is terrible. The Forgetter's 7" that came out before this was great. It had some life/kick to it. This reminds me more of Jets To Brazil than Jawbreaker. So expect that kind of vibe. If you were into will probably love this.

I wish Blake would either get the Thorns in Life back together and put out the recording that is rumored to have happened or just bite the bullet....take the money and do the Jawbreaker reunion. The Forgetters are easily.....forgettable.
