It might seem unlikely that Spencer Seim of Hella—known for
aggressive, instrument-bending experimental rock—would be
collaborating with Aaron Ross, a folk singer-songwriter with a rare
ability to compose lyrics from a point of view much larger than his
own. After their first collaboration recording Hella’s 2007 album
There’s No 666 in Outer Space, Aaron and Spencer continued
writing together as Solos. Recorded and produced by Guy Massey
(The Beatles, Radiohead, Spiritualized), Solos’ debut album The
Beast of Both Worlds showcases the duo’s vivid “classic” sound
melded with modern songwriting sensibilities. T
