Sorry to be negative here, but this album is really slow and boring in my view. The tempo never really changes throughout the album, almost to the point it is painful to listen to. I imagine if I saw them play live supporting this album, I might learn to like some of these songs....but I doubt it. This band really needs to bring some kick back to their sound......but then again.....if this is what they want to sound like....i'm sure they have alot of people who will like this, just not my mug of coffee.

First off, i'm glad to say that as is the case when so many bands jump to a major label, their sound becomes less original and more "mainstream." With TGA it sounds just like them, no shitty producer getting in the way of them making music the way they always have. However, while "Handwritten" starts off extremely strong, it gets weak during the middle and picks up slightly at the end. They probably will never make an album as good as "American Slang." If you've always enjoyed The Gaslight Anthem, you will enjoy this. I just don't think it's as strong as their previous efforts.
