| Tim Barry - 40 Miler |
Themes of resilience and hope flow through Tim Barry’s new record,
40 Miler. “If this record is uplifting compared to my old ones it’s
because I feel stronger from all the beat-downs and shit I’ve taken in
the past,” says the Richmond, Virginia-based artist. Throughout 40
Miler, the rough-hewn characters populating Barry’s lyrics refuse to
surrender even in the face of long odds. 40 Miler also finds Barry
taking his spare folk-country sound in a different direction. This
time around Barry opts for more raucous, rocking approach on
several tracks, adding more electric guitar, organ, piano, harmonica,
as well as the gorgeous voice of Richmond songstress Julie Karr to
the mix.

| I feel like this is one of those albums that just gets better every time you listen to it. Best served with a cooler full of beer, a pack on your back, and dust on your heels. Let's all just quit our jobs and become hobos. |

| Another Tim Barry record. No new ground broken here. If you like his older material, you should like this. Not as great as "Rivanna Junction" or "Laurel Street Demo" (which were near-perfect) as this album has some songs that almost start to get boring, but the good definitely outweigh the bad. "Fine Foods Market" is one of the best songs Tim has ever written.
Now, let's get AVAIL back together! |
