$10.50

Anchorless Records and Red Scare team up to bring you a real nice (heh heh) pair: Brendan Kelly of The Lawrence Arms and Joe McMahon of Smoke Or Fire. These two drunken louts have been cranking out punk hits for Fat Wreck Chords with their respective bands for years, and this unique release offers 14 stripped-down, acoustic versions of their best stuff. In addition to the re-worked originals, "Wasted Potential" boasts a Jawbreaker and Johnny Cash cover for added fun.

Their isn't a single thing Brendan Kelly has done that i dislike. From what i've heard he has a new full-length solo album coming out sometime soon which I cannot wait for. While i love Smoke Or Fire, i don't find Joe McMahon's songs to be particularly compelling. They aren't bad but I have no desire to listen to them after i've heard Brendan's songs. For those of you who aren't familiar with Brendan Kelly - Go buy every album from The Lawrence Arms & The Falcon. Slapstick too! BK's songs get 5 stars but the album gets 3 because i don't care much for Joe's songs.....Go check out Smoke Or Fire however, cause that is some great punk rock!

Not a huge acoustic fan but these 2 blokes are from 2 of my favorite bands. good release and good to have in the collection. buy it if youre into the larry arms or smoke or fire. 3 AND A HALF STARS

I've one Lawrence Arms album and one Smoke Or Fire album, so I figured I should buy this. It definitely exceeded my expectations. They sang with more emotion than when with their respective bands. I prefer Joe's half of the album more, but Brendan's half is also really well done.

3/23/2010 by Kevin from Houston, TX Rating:
I love the Brendan Kelly side of the split. His raw take on his Larry Arms songs are great and the cover of Jawbreaker's "Kiss the Bottle" is worth the price of the split alone. Now, I was never a fan of Smoke or Fire and I do not particulary like Joe McMahon's voice or songs...for that matter, but...reading the liner notes made me give his songs chance. Brendan Kelly also has liner notes for all his songs too. I will give this a rating of 4 because I like the Brendan Kelly tracks so much. No offense Joe.
