Jawbreaker

Unfun (Reissue)

Blackball 7

Released on March 30, 2010

$14.25

Blackball Records presents the 20th anniversary edition of Jawbreaker’s beloved 1990 debut album Unfun—twelve groundbreaking tracks (sixteen on the CD) that captured the very inception of emo’s big band and launched a galaxy of young, earnest bands and the scenes that love them. Unfun has been remastered by John Golden from the original analog tapes; the increased sampling rate boosts some of the bottom end and mid-range. It sounds fucking awesome. The vinyl version is available for the first time since 1992, and the CD and download versions of the record include the threesong Whack & Blite EP, as well as the 7-inch mix of “Busy” as an unlisted bonus track. This reissue features restored original artwork, and all formats include additional band photos from the time of recording. The CD comes with a 24-page booklet with the Whack & Blite insert reproduced in its entirety. “Want” and “Fine Day” were in heavy rotation on college radio back in the day, and remained set list staples throughout Jawbreaker’s run. Unfun wound up on a lot of fanzine top ten lists, and even the mainstream press took notice. Rolling Stone called it “a feast of heavy melody and righteous braying that roars along with all the spit and spirit of Hüsker Dü’s New Day Rising.”

I always wanted to get the original copy off this website and when I finally was going to get it, the original went out of print. Thankfully it was reissued and I figured, alright it's time. The liner book is really nice and the art is all sweet looking.

This album is their rawest one though I think I like Bivouac better. That one is raw as well (I have the original cd of that). There are some truly instant classic songs on Unfun. Jawbreaker is a band you can start with any album, but starting from the beginning is a good way to go. This is essentially a must purchase! I love that cat!

If you don't own this....WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!! This is such a classic (originally on the great Shredder Records) and now on Jawbreaker's Record Label Black Ball Records. To me this album is so special because it kind of predates the second wave of punk. So Blake and crew are making this sort of well written punk music in the face of the "Grunge" era....that is how original these guys were and are till this day. This band means so much to sooo many people. So if you were not around the first time, buy this and experience it now!

It doesn't sound very different or remasterd-ded-did than the original..That's fine it sounded great the way it is already, It is a punk-grunge masterpiece.Masterpiece. I just bought it again because I didn't own the album on Compact Disc. My favorite part of the album is tracks 6-8, Busy, Softcore and Driven. The whole record is good and reminds me that this and all Jawbreaker records are substantially underrated in the entire music culture.
