Love Songs For The Retarded (2017 Reissue)

Rad Girlfriend 70.2

Released on July 7, 2017

$13.50

The re-issue of The Queers best selling and most popular record, "Love Songs For The Retarded" is here on CD from Rad Girlfriend Records. Sixteen tracks of catchy pop-punk magic, "Love Songs for the Retarded" is the second full-length album by The Queers and between its vinyl and CD releases; it has sold over 100,000 copies to date. This record is a punk classic that will continue to win over new fans. The album incorporates a similar musical structure as their first album Grow Up, but with more pop driven sensibilities. Even after an 11 year gap between albums, the Queers still haven't grown up, as is evidenced by song titles like "Ursula Finally Has Tits," "I Can't Stop Farting," and "Noodlebrain". "Granola-Head" is an ultra-poppy anti-hippie rant that sums up the band's philosophy. Most of the album alternates between the guitar-driven pure pop craft of songs like "Deborah Jean" and "Daydreaming" and the less melodic, raging punk of "Monster Zero." The catchy pop-punk, Ramones influenced band originally released this masterpiece on Lookout Records in 1993. In 2006 The Queers rescinded their master rights from Lookout! Records signed to Asian Man Records. it got a make-over from Asian Man and the record was remixed and re-mastered to give it a bigger, more up to date sound. Throw in new artwork and you've got a brand new classic ready to be eaten up by the masses. Ben Weasel of Screeching Weasel wrote two songs with front man and guitarist Joe Queer for the album, which are "I Can't Stop Farting" and "Fuck the World". Screeching Weasel later recorded his version of "Fuck the World", which was included on the re-release of their album Wiggle. Over the last 25 years, "Love Songs For The Retarded" has proved to be one of the best and most timeless pieces of pop punk ever recorded. Thousands of shows later, the songs from this record remain a permanent staple on any Queers set list.

This is my favorite record of all time. If you only own one Queers record, one punk rock record, or one rock and roll record, this is the one that you should own.

This is a great album!! I fell in love with the Queers the second that I heard them. They have a sound reminiscent of the Ramones but yet remains 100% Queers. Definately punk at its finest. I would recommend this album to anyone who loves either A) Punk Rock, or B) The Ramones. A great buy, definately worth the $9!!!

this cd rules.this is my first one by the queers.i decided to get it after i read the screeching weasel(my brain hurts) liners notes by Joe king.I had bo idea who he was so I was like, who is this guy?.On the bottom of the liners notes it says "we went and wrote songs like noodle brain and ursulva finally has tits" and one day i was on interpunk, skimming all the bands on lookout,i came across the queers,i clicked on love songs for the retarded and saw "noodlebrain" and "ursulva finally has tits", so i was like "cool man,im gonna buy it!".so i did.Its great.this records up there with "kerplunk" by green day,"my brain hurts" by screeching weasel and more.very nice punk.Very very very ramones influenced.my favorite songs are "ursula finaly has tits" "fuck the world" "noddlebrain" "your tripping" :teenage bonehead" "feeling groovy" and "i hate everything". Funny songs, fast paced, awsome cd.get it now or go to hell.

this album is a classic. i first heard these guys about 15 or 16 yrs. ago. i thought they were the greatest thing since twinkies snack cakes. this is a rebuy thanks to a faulty c.d. player. anyone who is a fan of jethro tull or new edition should pick this up! you won't be disappointed.

This was a highly influential CD album in my life. What a bonehead I am. Loved when I first got it all those years ago and I still love it today. From the opening chant and bash of "your tripping" to the whining strains of infatuation in "daydreaming" this is a classic punk album that set the tone and for the queers of the 90's and today.

In my opinnion this was the best punk rock album of the 1990's bar none! I had to buy a new one, because my other copy has taken ten years of hard rocking out! You can't go wrong with such classics as "Teenage Bonehead,Debra Jean, Monster Zero, Day Dreaming, etc". Alot of people will tell you that "Don't Back Down" is the Queers best album. I Think that's a load of crap. "Love Songs For The Retarded" is the Queers at their very best. Anways, you will want to have this CD or LP in your collection!

I've been a long time Queers fan and this is one of my favorite albums. If you've never heard them before this is a good starting point. It'll get you hooked.

This CD, along with Don't Back Down, are two of the best Queers CDs. This has a little rawer sound than Don't Back Down, probably because it was recorded in the early 90's.
