Assistant/This Ship Will Sink/Takaru - Split
Assistant/This Ship Will Sink/Takaru

Split

Waking 6

Sorry, but this item is no longer available

The Assistant give us their final song on this split, delivering a 7-minute epic of the same intense and varied hardcore they’ve become known for. With three vocalists and shifting from mathy and technical to quiet and mellow and then to all out crushing intensity, this record has enough ideas to fill and entire album and leaves the listener drained yet energized. It’s a fitting and beautiful epilogue to this bands inspiring existence. This Ship follows with another song recorded at the same time as their debut ep that builds on the heavier parts of The Assistant and is just as shifting and technical but even more brutal. It’s furious yet delicate and complex and always engaging. Takaru give us three songs of the intense hardcore that they are quickly becoming well known for. Dueling vocalists deliver furious lyrics dissecting the workings of our mixed up world with an acute anger and passion that is hard to ignore. Delivering three songs in under four minutes, Takaru rarely lets up their immense wall of noise, simply allowing it to swing from thrashy and blistering to plodding and doomy. This record and these bands are bound together by their critical social commentary and desire to inspire thought and action. Each band uses their songs to examine and communicate about the world around them, offering both lyrics and explanations on topics ranging from the manipulation of statistics to the drug war and how we treat each other and ourselves. This cd is a benefit for DRUM (Desis Rising Up and Moving) a community based group in New York City working for immigrants rights.

Bahahaha, this is the best split I own! Finally I actually love all the bands on one cd - and this has 3 bands instead of just 2! Anyways, this is the Assistant's final recording - a 7 minute opus of hardcore screamo with dual vocals and some amazing instrumentals. I bought this mainly for This Ship Will Sink, and they do not dissappoint. But then again, they never dissappoint. A 4 minute political rant in the beautiful form of insanely timed technical power screamo with two incredible vocalists. This song even has the patented-disgustingly fast/clean/grooving interludes with the talky/screamy thing going on (well... it is the guy from You & I). Takaru closes the cd with 3 songs of brutal hardcore in the vein of Refused and Envy. I don't have anything else by these guys, but goddammit that's gonna change real soon!
