We're All Natural Disasters
(Features Brian Moss of The Ghost)
Thick 104
Released on September 7, 2004
|
Like the calm before a storm and the eerie quiet that befalls you, Hanalei creates a fragile beauty by blending rich acoustic guitars and lush melodies with electronic pulse and programming. The solo debut of Chicago transplant Brian Moss (of the post-punk band The Ghost), Hanalei takes a more subtle approach, blending elements of indie-rock, folk, pop, and americana with textured digital effects. Moss’ whispered words, laced with arsenic and emotion, wax poetic with a soothing appeal. A beautiful record with smart lyrics and sullen atmosphere, for fans of: Postal Service, Calliope, Death Cab, or The Shins

| One of my most favorite CD's in my entire music collection. For people who don't know, this is a very stripped down, honest, and mellow release from Brian from the Ghost. Definitely the other side of the spectrum from the Ghost. But the music is just so damn honest, with great lyrics and the addition of the drum machine on some of the songs is just fantastic. Very good stuff to chill to or drive to. Many of the songs are soft and slow, but it's still for the punks. |

| If radiohead consisted of a poppy side this would be them. Action Drum (the 1st song) is a pretty amazing tune that you may just want to hear over and over again. This cd isn't not a waste of dinero at all. |
