Indie heroes Against Me! make their major-label debut with the band’s fourth incendiary studio album, New Wave. i bought this version for my brother, i didn't need to dvd's for myself. he says the extra material/videos are cool, and worth it, so hey, i will give it a 4 for the extras, and a full 5 for the album itself, because it's AM!

12/16/2007 by David from Lemon Grove, CA Rating:
Lots of hype and criticism surounding this album. This being the bands major label debut, the "Scene Police" are out in full riot gear. Yeah, who cares?! It's all about the music in the end. All the B.S. aside, this is a good album. Not as good as "As the Eternal Cowboy", but it's on par with "Searching for a Former Clarity". Good song writing, catchy hooks, sing along chorus's. Gravelly vocals, shredding guitars, bouncing bass lines, and dancey drum beats. Some really great songs on here that stand up to the bands past work: Thrash Unreal, W.P. for Peace, New Wave, Up the Cuts,Americans Abroad, are all solid tracks. Born on the FM Waves is a great poppy duet. While not bad songs, I do find myself skipping Stop! and Animal. The main difference between NEW WAVE and the bands past albums is the production. It's not over polished, but it does suffer slightly for not having as "raw" a feel.

This is one more amazing cd to add to Against Me's repetoire. I think I'd still list Searching for a Former Clarity as my favorite but this still doesn't seem like a step backwards. Yes they are on a major label now, I can hear the screams of sellout already, but I think they defend themselves pretty well themselves within the lyrics to some of these songs. And come on, when band members start having kids, its either time they make this band thing start working and giving them some sort of income, or they get a 9 to 5. I'd much rather have Against Me keep making amazing music, even if they are on a major, then quit. Some songs like Born on the FM Airwaves and The Ocean took some getting used to but I fell in love all the same. This is an amazing cd. Just stop thinking about the whole major label thing if it really bothers you because personally I couldn't care less.

Some people hate it, some love it, i think its pretty good. I read one review saying how big of sellouts they are and they dont sing about anarchy anymore so they suck. well ive got news for that guy.. they are singing about the same shit they did since day one.. ex - government, war, love, peace, drug addiction, ect. They only have one song they've ever sang about anarchy, and it wasnt even their song to begin with (Baby im an anarchist) I think that Tom is a fricking genius of a song writter and they deserve to be rich and famous. But its not like they are going to get a whole bunch of air time.. thier sound is still too alternative for most mainstream shit. so whats the big deal about them being on sire records? Sure they sound a bit more poppy, especially on songs like 'stop.' But i dont care, thats part of thier maturity and natural progression. Anyone who has written music knows it get boring to write the same style over and over again, you need to change it up a bit, and that is exactly what they are doing. My only complaint with the album is that it is too short! i want more Aganist Me good dammit! But over all a stong album, you can listen all the way through. My fav songs are the first 4, and the rest grew on me alot, but still have to go with the first 4. If there were more songs i would have got a 5 out of 5. The DVD is actually really good too. It captures the energy of thier live shows and get really comical when fans get up on stage and start singing. In the last song you can notice andrew (the bass player) plays drums for the last verse.. its pure against me at thier finest. I love these guys.

I'm not sure why people give these guys so much flack. I even thought there last album was not a departure from their "orginal sound". But we are human beings and we love to piss and moan. I think this is a solid album. I really enjoy the song "Animal". I like the album art/concept "New Wave". Yeah it's tough to see bands you like go to a major, but it's Sire Records for goodness sakes. The same label the Ramones were on. Give these guys a break. They are still good.

7/28/2007 by Tyler from West Olive, MI Rating:
if you think against me has sold out because they have signed to a major label, first pick up this cd (or download it), then listen to it for yourself, then listen to it again, then judge. because it doesn't matter what label they're on or who's signing their checks, it's still against me, and it's still their music, and if they didn't think it was gonna be any good then they wouldn't release it. it is an amazing cd, and it can stand right up there with all their previous releases. i strongly suggest you purchase it, or do what i did and get two.

7/26/2007 by Stephen from Houston, TX Rating:
New Wave continues the train of thought of Searching For A Former Clarity. It seems as though some of the lyrics are a bit sad from their growing success. But is still a good album. I just hope their shows stay as personal is in the past.

7/22/2007 by Filippo from Montreal, PQ Canada Rating:
Its a so so album, I like half of it basically and the other half, I wouldnt care for when I hear it in the shuffling option of my Ipod. If your new to Against Me, buy first their earlier albums (arent all bands at their best in the beginning?)

7/22/2007 by Nestor from Newhall, CA Rating:
What can I really say I was really looking forward to this cd, and got What I was expecting. This Album picked up right where searching for a former clarity left off. It was a pretty Drastic change in music but after for Searching for a Former Clarity this is what i was expecting. People might say this cd sucks just because against me is not the same folk punk band they use to be, but if this were any other band just starting off it would be a solid Cd. All I can say is the songs may sound somewhat boring on cd, but when they play these new songs live its the same intense feeling as their old ones.

7/18/2007 by Sean from Cumberland, RI Rating:
I think Against Me! Get a lot of slack for signing with sire. The truth is New Wave is a solid record that I believe would sound exactly the same on any label. Some songs on here sound just like classic against me (Americans Abroad, White People For Peace) Others seem to try something new (Fm Waves, Stop). Thrash unreal is by far the best song on this record. It reminds me of a pre Reinventing song "Shit Stroll". But as long as you can look past the record label on the back of the disc theres no reason why you wont enjoy this record. The DVD fucking rules too.
