| Sainte Catherines - Dancing For Decadence |
Welcome to the FAT family our first band from
Montreal, Canada, THE SAINTE CATHERINES!
Named after one of Montreal’s seedier rues,
these guys have in fact hit the streets, performing
over 450 shows in 9 countries to date!
With two full lengths, an EP and two split 7"s
under their collective beret, the band set out to
record their third full length late in 2005.
Dancing For Decadence and it’s twelve anthemic
tracks find the band in full stride. Unique in
many ways, THE SAINTE CATHERINES are also
a six piece, and no, they don’t have a tambourine
player, or a Moog operator, instead they
craft their hard hitting punk rock with three guitars!
Lead singer, Hugo lays out gruffly melodic
vocals, backed up by even more growl-laden
vox from the band’s guitarists. If you need a
"sounds like" look to Hot Water Music, and
Leatherface. Lyrically, they mix socially conscious
politics, with reflections of a band on the
edge of poverty, beers in hand.

| I was really hoping that in FAT signing a band from Montreal, we'd get some French in the record, but only a few samples between songs seem to be in French...no actual singing in French...boo hoo. Regardless of my disapointment in hearing all English lyrics, the Sainte Catherines don't disapoint. Totally intense music, gravely vocals that still have melody. My favorite songs are I'd Rather Be Part Of A Dying Bungee Scene, Ring Of Fire = 4 pts, If There's Black Smoke Over A Bridge It's Over. Weird song titles too. Hope they come down to the states soon! |
