Protect: A Benefit For The National Association To Protect Children
Fat Wreck Chords 697
Released on October 18, 2005
|
FAT’s publicist Vanessa has been involved with PROTECT for a few years now, helping them with publicity, and coordinating benefit concerts. PROTECT is a national pro-child, anti-crime membership association. They were founded on the belief that our first and most sacred obligation as parents, citizens, and members of the human species is the protection of children from harm. They are committed to building a powerful, nonpartisan force for the protection of children from abuse, exploitation and neglect. PROTECT believes that this must be done through a determined single-issue focus, a meaningful mainstream agenda, and the use of proven modern political strategies. Earlier this year Vanessa and Jackson Ellis from Verbicide magazine teamed up to put together a compilation CD as a benefit for PROTECT. Always interested supporting the causes our employees are involved in, we decided to release the CD. Some of the best bands in punk rock have stepped forward to lend a hand to the cause, with over half of them contributing unreleased tracks!

This is a great comp, and a great cause. I liked almost every song, except the hardcore screaming cookie monster stuff (but, that's not my thing, if it your's then it is all the better.) Get this one for sure, do it for the kids. The best songs or at least my favorite are by... Matt Skiba, Smoke or Fire, NOFX (despite the fact I had that song already), The Falcon, Joey Cape, The Soviettes, Tim Barry, Teenage Bottlerocket, Jawbreaker and Against Me!

Some good songs, some bad songs, some "who cares?" songs, almost nothing exclusive or new anymore... Just another compilation, actually. The hardest kind of record to review. More good songs than bad songs, by the way. If you want to help the Association, go, if you don't, click "back" on your browser.

I only hate 2 songs on this comp. And as far as comps go, that is awesome. There are quite a few songs on this one, and it is one of my favorite comps ever. Introduced me to a few bands that I have never heard of, so I had to run out and buy a couple of albums after listening to this one. It is like listening to a really cool radio show without commercials. Worth every damn penny.

It's for a good cause, but nothing too incredible beyond track 4. Mostly acoustic songs and a general lack of speed throughout, but it's okay if you're into that kind of stuff. The best feeling is you're helping save children, and I'd still rather pay $7.75 to hear "Leaving Jesusland" than simply leave it at a charity. Try it.

I have to say I was let down by this cd. I was exited for all the un-released songs by some of the bands but they aren't too good. Skiba, Mxpx, Falcon, Darkest Hour, are the only GOOD songs. I was so so so dissapointed with the against me! song, it wasn't too good. At least this isn't another anti-bush cd from Fat, i would mainly buy this cd if your down for its cause or you have extra money.

This is a little expensive for a compilation, but its worth it. It's great bands on it and regardless of what you're into you will like something on this album. There is even a couple Metal songs on here, if that's what you're into. The Smoke or Fire, Tim Version, Grabass Charlestons, Tim Barry and (most of all) Against Me! songs are all great and worth the money alone.
