Real McKenzies - 10,000 Shots
If the name of the album wasn’t enough of a
hint, then let me spell it out for ya…The Real
McKenzies like drinking! If there’s one thing
that these Scottish-Canadians love nearly as
much, it’s playing punk rock music! They
masterfully combine their two fortes on their
fifth full length 10,000 Shots. Not since the
import of Bob and Dave McKenzie in the 80’s
has the world been graced with such talent!
With their kilts (and other various stuff) flapping
in the wind, our neighbors from the
North have brought into being their best
material yet. The thirteen tracks run the
gamut from the tradition Scottish-Canadian
song "Farewell To Nova Scotia" to the new
original classic "Pour Decisions", all held
together the common glue of Matt McNasty’s
punk rock pipe playing! The Real McKenzies
datebook is full with them hitting the road for
a serious dose of non-stop touring, so catch
‘em when you can!

If you like punk rock with bagpipes, you should definitely get this album. The fourth track is a really good song, listen to the sampler. Thats my opinion, 4 stars.

this is my favorite CD in my collection of christmas presents from last year... some of the songs don't sound so "punk rock", and have more of an acoustic, soft sound, but i still listen to them every time... i haven't been able to put this CD down recently, and have listened to it for about a month straight now... you gotta love scottish-canadian punk rock...

This is a great CD from a Scottish-Canadian band. "Pour Decisions" "Bugger Off" and "I Hate My Band" are some of the highlights, although every song on this CD is badass.I very much recommend this CD.

I've been a fan of these Scotsmen for quite some time now, and I'd have to say that this is their best album to date! Each of their albums is a musical lesson in Canadian culture, from a Scottish perspective. Until the Real McKenzies, I was unaware of the thriving Scottish/Canadian culture in Canada. I live in Oakland, we do not have a thriving Scottish community, but it's easy to get shot in the face. Anways, this album would even sooth the sould of a face shooting victim. The songs "Smokin' Bowl", "I Hate My Band", and "13" are stand out tracks in my opinion. There's even a rockin instrumental at the end, bagpipes, bass, and drums only...wow. Lift up yer kilt and dance the night away!

In one word: amazing. this, in my personal opinion, is the best Real McKenzies album to date. i especially love Farewell To Nova Scotia, because i am a Nova Scotian and being so far from home is hard sometimes. this is a definite must have for any scottish punk, or anyone else for that matter, just good time punk rock.
