Circa Survive - Juturna
Circa Survive is the new band featuring Anthony Green from Saosin and Colin Frangicetto
and Brendan Ekstrom from This Day Forward. Juturna is a mind-bending amalgamation of influences ranging from prog-rock to art-metal, it reflects both the diverse backgrounds and the common bonds of the five unique individuals who make up Circa Survive. Marked by intricate arrangements and the pristine production of Brian McTernan (Thrice, Bane, Cave In), the disc displays a band-wide chemistry that radiates from every track. It also boasts a stunning lead single in the epic “Act Appalled,” along with such emotionally weighty songs as “Holding Someone’s Hair Back” and “Stop the Fucking Car,” both of which match the visceral
qualities of their titles with their content.
Clearly, fans of any of the members’ former bands will be surprised — in a very good way. “It’s
definitely a lot more straight up rock and roll, less metal-y kind of stuff than Saosin,” offers
Green. “I definitely sound different than I’ve ever sounded, but I don’t entirely know why that is. Maybe it’s because I’m a little bit older. It’s delicate music, but it’s not too passive. It’s got
all this bulk to it. There’s a sick amount of groove.”
“We really just want to bring back that quality that was extremely present in the music of the
‘60s and ‘70s,” adds Frangicetto. “That urgency; the feeling that a note could change the world. That’s one extreme. Another is just simply to be an artist that isn’t contrived or a trend follower. To be a trendsetter, instead.”

this album is so good. probably the best drumming I have ever heard. the songs are all melodic with break downs of driven choruses. I don't think there is a bad song on this record.

i thought that this cd was absolutely amazing. no, it doesn't sound like saosin, but that shouldn't stop you from buying this if you're in for something different. the vocals are fantastic. sounds like: saosin took some downers and then got in a car crash with the mars volta.

| This is lovely. Not the sort of thing I usually buy. Bought it on the basis of its review on interpunk. It is energetic, melodic, and pretty. But also rocks too!
I love the singing also.
These guys are very talented. Worth buying, even if you are not sure about it.

I can't possibly describe how good this CD is - dreamy melodies, ethereal, emotional vocals, cool time signitures - everything is fantastic. One of the best CDs released in this "scene"...ever.

After downloading a shitload of old Saosin I was really looking forward to this CD and was left severely disappointed. Hopefully the old Saosin EPs will be collected into a full length CD or at least rereleased

This CD is really good, and I wish that I could give it all five stars... but unfortunately, the obvious influences of this disc turn me off a little bit. It's good, but it reminds me too much of Coheed/At the Drive-In/Mars Volta/etc... otherwise it is a good, solid album.

I found myself boggled that I liked this dark pop punk stuff, but goddamn how could I not? Best vocalist ever. Plus 2 former This Day Forward members. Some songs lack in comparison to the better tracks, but holy shit - songs 1, 2, 5, 6, and 10 are just phenomenal. Pick this up if you like amazingness...ness. Lates.

AMAZING CD. I really can't express in words just how great this band really is. Anthony's voice is just INCREDIBLE. They've been one of my favorite bands for a while now, every song on this CD is worth the money. a must buy. I saw Circa Survive with Dredg this past sunday [march 15th] and they put on one hell of a show! DEFINATELY pick this one up..probably one of the best cds on this site.
